Jan Lederman is the President of Innovate Manitoba Inc., an industry-led non-profit organization focused on being a catalyst for innovation in Manitoba, with the goal of accelerating the commercialization of new technologies. Jan also teaches Advising Startup Ventures at the Faculty of Law at the University of Manitoba. In 2016, working with the Desautels Centre on Private Enterprise at the Law at the Faculty of Law, Jan launched the Startup Legal Clinic, through which volunteer practicing lawyers provide free legal advice to startups.
Jan holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Manitoba. She has extensive experience in business law with a focus on advising private enterprise, including private equity and venture capital investment transactions. She has been named to Best Lawyers© in Canada in Mergers and Acquisitions Law, Leveraged Buyouts and Private Equity Law each year since 2013. Following a successful 35-year legal career, Jan retired as a partner of Thompson Dorfman Sweatman LLP in December 2014 and now works as an advisor to startups and emerging growth companies.
In addition to her Juris Doctor, Jan holds a Certificate from the Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School and a Blue Belt in Innovation Engineering.
