UPDATE: Advolve made it to the final 5 of this competition for North America! Congratulations to Bryce North and Kris Luinenburg.  Check out the recorded competition here.

More incredible news for Winnipeg startups this week.  Advolve Media has qualified as a finalist for Get in the Ring Canada, which will see five Canadian startups head to Kansas City on Nov. 6, 2014 to compete for a chance to pitch at a global competition in the Netherlands (expenses paid).

main_oct14v3Get in the Ring captions themselves as ‘the Olympics for Startups’.  The event ‘puts startups in the spotlight, giving them a global podium from which to connect with investors and create a fan base’ because ‘startups are just like rockstars.’

Advolve’s CEO, Bryce North also recently competed against 15 other startups from across Canada for the title of Canada’s Most Promising Startup and narrowly missed making it to the top five. That honour was taken by another Manitoba startup, Chris Johnson’s Permission Click.

Manitoba can now add a second startup rockstar to its lineup in as many weeks: Advolve Media’s Bryce North.

“From what I understand, this is a pretty big deal,” said North. “Accelerators from all over the world would have been pushing the opportunity to their startups.”

North has already touched base with one of Innovate Manitoba’s Launch’Pad Boot Camp leaders, Permjot Valia, an internationally recognized startup expert and angel investor.

“While we are in the area, we are going to make the trip over to Arkansas to visit with his group of angel investors that includes at least one superstar that is more known for his athletic prowess than angel investing,” said North. “Lots to be excited about!”

Clearly entrepreneurship and startups are becoming an increasing focus of the international business scene – led by entrepreneurs like North, Johnson, and others, Winnipeg’s startup scene is blossoming at the right time.

“This is very big win for Advolve and another clear sign that Manitoba is developing a more robust and cohesive startup eco-system,” said Jan Lederman, president of Innovate Manitoba. “Success stories like this should only help to further motivate startup feeders and supporters, like Innovate Manitoba, Futurpreneur, Startup Winnipeg and others to collaborate, with entrepreneur and startup success being the focus.”

Advolve Media came through Innovate Manitoba’s startup cycle in 2012-2013, winning Best Technology Pitch at Pitch’Day and finishing just outside the money at Venture’Challenge 2013. They also recently took top spot at the Winnipeg stop of Fundica’s Roadshow, which earned North an expense-paid trip to pitch to investors in Silicon Valley this month.

REMINDER: Pitch’Day 2014 is on November 12 – Innovate Manitoba is currently accepting competitor entries.
